QORIX Classic: An AUTOSAR Platform for Automotive ECU Development

What Is QORIX Classic?

QORIX Classic is an automotive software platform built on the AUTOSAR Classic standard. It is designed in a modular way and brings together key software layers such as the Basic Software (BSW), the Runtime Environment (RTE), and the Operating System (OS). It also works with the Microcontroller Abstraction Layer (MCAL).

Each of these layers has a clear role. Together, they keep the application software independent from the hardware details underneath. QORIX Classic also works with multicore processors and supports different AUTOSAR setups, so it can be used across many types of automotive ECUs.

How QORIX Classic Supports ECU Development

Let’s take a body control unit as an example. This ECU controls body-related features in a vehicle, such as lights and cabin electronics. Before the application can be added, engineers must first set up the required software modules, communication interfaces, and diagnostic services.

QORIX Classic makes this work easier with its structured architecture and configuration tools. Using QORIX Developer Classic, engineers can configure the platform step by step. Built-in consistency checks help spot configuration errors early. The platform also allows communication and diagnostic BSW settings to be configured using widely used data formats.

Main Advantages of QORIX Classic

QORIX Classic comes with several useful features for automotive software teams:

  • Modular design: Software components stay well organized and easier to manage.
  • Multicore support: The platform can run on supported multicore processors.
  • OEM customization: It allows changes based on specific OEM needs.
  • Post-build configuration: Some parameters can be updated even after the ECU has been delivered, giving teams more flexibility.
  • Functional safety up to ASIL D: It is suitable for safety-related automotive applications.
  • Support for multiple AUTOSAR releases: Teams can work with the AUTOSAR version their project needs.

The right setup for any project depends on the ECU’s functions, the target hardware, and the required safety level.

Final Thoughts

QORIX Classic gives automotive teams a reliable base for building and integrating ECU software on the AUTOSAR Classic architecture. With its configurable modules, multicore capability, and strong integration features, it fits well into many different automotive applications.
